Men flee from police in Berbice River, leaving shotguns and ganja
Two unregistered shotguns and a quantity of marijuana were seized by police during an intelligence-led operation in the Upper Berbice River area on Thursday.
The operation, conducted between 11:00h and 18:00h, resulted in the discovery of the illegal items after two men fled from the scene.
Police reported that during the operation, officers observed two men in boats acting suspiciously on the Berbice River. Upon noticing the police presence, the men hastily exited their boats and escaped into thick vegetation behind a wooden two-storey structure on the eastern bank of the river.
A search of the area, including the house, led to the discovery of two 12-gauge shotguns without serial numbers and a quantity of marijuana. In addition to the firearms and narcotics, police also seized a 40HP Yamaha Outboard Engine, a 2HP Yamaha Outboard Engine, and a Samsung cell phone.
No arrests have been made in connection with the bust, and the investigation is ongoing.
