MILO U18 Schools Football tournament Golden Grove, Dolphin secure semi-final spots

Second round of semis set for Wednesday

Golden Grove and Dolphin Secondary are the first two teams into the semi-finals of the Milo U18 schools football tournament following Sunday’s Quarter-finals.

Played at the Ministry of Education ground on Carifesta Avenue, Sunday’s matches were both one sided encounters in favour of the winners.

In the first game, Golden Grove overcame Friendship 4-1.

The eventual winners took some time to find their footing and fell behind early as Friendship’s Jamal Cordis scored in the 16th minute.

That goal seemed to jolt the Golden Grove unit into action as they had Kevin Richard’s score just four minutes later to even things up. And for the first time in the game, Golden Grove, compliments of Tyric Trotman in the 25th minute, had the lead. It was a lead that held till the half with Friendship looking desperately for a comeback.

However, that was not the case and when Richards scored his second and Golden Grove’s third goal in the 67th, the match was all but over. Duwad Wilson’s 90th minute goal put the game out of reach, reaffirming the semi-final spot for Golden Grove.

The second game of the day was a goal scoring frenzy as President’s College were decimated by Dolphin Secondary 5-0

Calwell Peters opened the scoring as early as the 15th minute with Gerry Burnette adding the second goal for the team in the 24th. Samuel Grant would be the team’s third different scorer in the 59th while Peters returned in the 84th to complete his brace and the team’s fourth goal.

Burnette, not to be outdone, also completed his brace two minutes later, leaving the score line at 5-0.

Meanwhile, the second set of quarter-finals will be played on Wednesday.

Cummings lodge will oppose Christianburg Wismar Secondary School from 16:00 with North Ruimveldt playing West Ruimveldt at 18:00 hours
