Min. Zulfikar Mustapha addresses flooding issues in Mocha Village

Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha along with members of the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA) and other officials from the Ministries of Agriculture and Housing and Water on Monday began an assessment of flooding in Mocha Village farmlands.

Minister Mustapha’s visit follows excessive rainfall in recent days which resulted in flooding in the farming areas. During his inspection, there has been some damage to farmlands and livestock.

Minister Mustapha reassured farmers that the ministry will work to ensure immediate measures are in place to assist with flooding in the farming areas.

“We already have a machine in this area, I am looking at those areas to look at the water is backing up and those areas that is coming up from the backland so that we can put some system in place to avoid the water coming in those areas”

The National Drainage and Irrigation Authority is expected to produce a report on ways to implement a system to manage the flooding later this today.
