A 62-year-old miner was on Friday arrested after he was busted with 948 grams of marijuana and 55 grams of cocaine in a milk tin at the Bartica Stelling.

According to the Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), at about 13:20h, acting on information received, ranks went to the Bartica Stelling, where an inbound passenger speedboat was moored.

Thirteen passengers disembarked the speedboat and were instructed to hold their respective properties. At the Bartica Stelling, a search was conducted on everyone, including a 62-year-old male miner of Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

A search of the miner’s white salt bag in his possession unearthed a 5lbs milk tin with four compressed bulky transparent parcels, all containing a number of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.

A transparent bulky parcel was also found with a whitish rocklike substance suspected to be cocaine. The suspect was told of the rank’s suspicion and cautioned, after which he admitted ownership of the narcotics.

The suspected cannabis was weighed in his presence and amounted to 948 grams, while the cocaine weighed 55 grams. The suspect is currently in custody at the Bartica Police Station pending charges.
