Miner allegedly robbed of $1.1M of gold jewellery
A 30-year-old miner of Section ‘B’ Field Sophia, Georgetown, was on Saturday robbed of $1.1 million worth of gold jewellery. The incident occurred at about 19:20h, by three unidentifiable males armed with guns.
The Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) reported that the victim was standing in his yard when the perpetrators suddenly walked into his yard.
A confrontation ensued, and the suspects whipped out their handguns and pointed them at the victim, demanding that he hand over the seven gold chains he was wearing.
The 30-year-old miner refused, and one of the perpetrators pulled off the chains from his neck, and they made good their escape in an unknown direction. Investigations are ongoing.
