Miner arrested after Police find cocaine, ganja hidden in pillowcase

A 46-year-old miner was arrested early Sunday morning after police found cocaine and marijuana concealed inside a pillowcase at his camp in Oku Backdam, Region Seven.


The Guyana Police Force (GPF) reported that at about 02:00h, ranks went to the camp of Mark Ramdass, where they found him asleep.


According to the GPF, Ramdass was awoken, and the camp was searched. During the search, a black plastic bag containing a bottle was found inside a pillowcase.


The bottle held rock-like substances suspected to be cocaine, along with ziplock packets of marijuana.


Ramdass, a resident of Bachelor’s Adventure, East Coast Demerara (ECD), was informed of the offence and, when cautioned, reportedly responded saying, “Is me own, do a thing fo meh nah.”


He was arrested and taken to the Bartica Police Station. The narcotics were weighed, amounting to 5.4 grams of cocaine and 38.7 grams of marijuana.


Ramdass remains in custody and is expected to face charges soon.
