Minibus driver in custody following Vreed-en-Hoop fatal accident

Police are probing a fatal accident that occurred at about 18:10h on Friday at New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara (WCD).


The accident has claimed the life of 55-year-old Linden Johnson of Lot F-D New Road, Vreed -en-Hoop.


According to the Police, minibus BAB 1624, driven by Claude Pilgrim, 40, was proceeding along New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop, at a fast rate of speed when he collided with Johnson, who he claimed ran from south to north across the road.


As a result of the collision, the 55-year-old man was flung onto a nearby parapet and received injuries to his body.


He was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.


A breathalyser test was conducted on the driver, and no trace of alcohol was found on his breath. Notwithstanding, he is in custody, assisting with the investigation.
