MoE says Maria’s Lodge Nursery headteacher offered home free during school repairs

The Maria’s Lodge Nursery School, which is under repairs

The Ministry of Education (MoE) has dismissed what it called a ‘libelous and mischievous” statement by Opposition Parliamentarian Shurwayne Holder, who alleged that the Maria’s Lodge Nursery School in Region Two was operating out of a People’s Progressive Party (PPP) member’s private residence.

In response, the Ministry clarified that the nursery school is temporarily being accommodated at the home of the school’s Headteacher, who offered her premises free of charge.

The Ministry emphasised that the Headteacher’s home, located next to the school, was offered out of goodwill while repair work is being carried out at the Maria's Lodge Nursery School.

Contrary to Holder’s claims, the Ministry stressed that the Headteacher has not received any payment for this arrangement and condemned the allegations as false and defamatory.

“The Ministry of Education strongly encourages the PNC and AFC and each and every executive member thereof to refrain from using education and educators as fodder for whatever message they may be trying to carry,” the Ministry stated.

It also demanded an immediate apology from Holder and the removal of the false post.

The Ministry expressed gratitude to the Headteacher and her family for their generosity and dedication to ensuring the continued education of the children in Region Two during this period of transition.
