The recently re-established Kaieteur Attack Racing Cycle Club starts off the local racing calendar this February 13th with the Momentum Cycle Race.

The 40-mile road race starts at 7:30am from Carifesta Avenue onwards to Mahaica road, East Coast Demerara and returns to origin.

Alex Mendes, from the Kaieteur Attack Racing Cycle Club said,

“It’s the first race for the new season and most of the guys are excited to start back and get the first race under their belt. So it’s a bit of buzz within the cycling fraternity for the first race.”

Conditional approval has been granted by the National Covid-19 Task Force for the hosting of the race.

All necessary police approvals have also been granted.

The federation is discouraging spectators gathering on the streets and is instead encouraging persons to watch the live stream online.

This is to avoid large crowds gathering in a COVID environment.

The Guyana Cycling federation has also urged cyclists to register or renew their licence as required so that they can participate in the 2022 racing season.

Cyclists will have until the 11th March, 2022 to ensure that this is done.

Cyclists who participate in events without being licensed will be fined $1000 on race days.

“Everybody’s excited to get the season off. You know all our athletes are registered athletes to come out and race because they’re excited that the first race is coming off soon.”

Mendes noted.
