Mother charged with hiding son accused of posting ex-girlfriend’s nude photos
The mother of Jeremy Smith, the IT technician who allegedly posted his ex-girlfriend’s nudes on social media and damaged her property, has been slapped with an obstruction of justice charge.
67-year-old Ann Smith was hauled before Magistrate Annette Singh in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where the charge was read to her.
According to the charge, Ann, on July 8, 2024, at Lot 139 Silverballi Street, Meadow Brook Gardens, attempted to conceal her son, Jeremy from being arrested by police.
Ann pleaded not guilty, and the prosecution did not oppose bail. However, a request was made for her to surrender her passport and report regularly to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
However, her attorney, Eusi Anderson, argued that his client requires medical treatment in the United States and asked the court not to impose the passport restriction.
Ultimately, the woman was released on $50,000 bail and ordered to report to the CID twice a month instead. The case will come up again on September 6, 2024.
In July, her son was slapped with two charges and was released on $150,000 bail. The first charge alleged that between March 11 and May 6, 2023, at Meadow Brook Gardens, Jeremy intentionally and without a lawful excuse, acquired electronic data - videos and photos from Denise Alexis’ WhatsApp messages.
It was further alleged that Smith, between May 27 and July 16, 2024, at the same location, used a computer system to publish electronic data of his ex-girlfriend that was obscene, vulgar, profane, rude, or indecent and caused emotional distress to Alexis.
As a condition for bail, he, too, was ordered to report to the Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters every Friday.
