Mother, daughter charged for wounding cousin during row
Updated: May 27, 2022
A mother and daughter, who are accused of wounding their female cousin during a row, were released today on $70,000 bail each.
26-year-old Steffany Dick and 47-year-old Melanie Stewart – both vendors – were hauled before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and denied the charge.
The charge stated that on January 9, 2022, at East La Penitence, the duo unlawfully and maliciously wounded Nalisha McKenzie with the intent to maim, disfigure, disable, or cause grievous bodily harm.
The court heard that McKenzie went to the home of Stewart on the day in question when an argument ensued between Dick and McKenzie.
A scuffle ensued between the two, which led to Dick choking McKenzie, who subsequently fell to the ground. Then, Dick and her mother armed themselves with a piece of wood and dealt the victim several lashes on her body.
The victim was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where a doctor examined and admitted her. A police report was made, and the duo was arrested.
Notwithstanding, the Chief Magistrate granted the duo bail in the sum of $70,000 each, and they are expected to make another court appearance on March 16.
The condition of bail is that the duo doesn’t come within 50-feet of the victim pending the determination of the matter.
