Mother who tried to smuggle sim card to imprisoned son jailed
Ingrid Thomas, who was caught attempting to smuggle a SIM card into the Mazaruni Prison for her son, has been jailed for 30 days.
Thomas, 55, appeared before Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and was charged with attempting to supply prohibited articles to a prisoner. She pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced.
The Guyana Prison Service (GPF) had stated that the 55-year-old Brittania, West Coast Berbice (WCB) woman, arrived at the Prison Headquarters at about 10:15h, and the items she brought for her son, Bevon Thomas, were routinely searched.
During the search, officers found a SIM card hidden in a toothpaste tube among the items. Thomas was arrested and handed over to the police, who subsequently charged her.
