Motorcyclist, 18, dies, pillion rider injured in Essequibo crash

An accident that occurred on the Mainstay Access Road, Essequibo Coast, on Tuesday has claimed the life of an 18-year-old motorcyclist.


The deceased, Uwayne Freeman, of Mainstay Village, was riding motorcycle CN 8791 with fellow villager Alexander Gomes, also 18, as his pillion rider.


According to initial investigations, the motorcycle was travelling south at a high speed when Freeman lost control and crashed into a utility pole at the side of the road.


Public-spirited citizens rushed Gomes to the Suddie Public Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment of a fractured right foot. Tragically, Freeman was pronounced dead on arrival at the same hospital.


Freeman’s body has been taken to the Suddie Public Hospital Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination. The police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
