Motorcyclist, pillion rider killed in Diamond accident were not wearing helmet – Police

Philbert Charles and Chris Daniels, who were killed in a motorcycle accident on Saturday morning, were not wearing helmets, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) has said.
According to the GPF, the fatal accident occurred at about 04:10h on the Diamond Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD), in the vicinity of DSL supermarket.
Reports are that Charles, 24, of Fellowship Village, Mahaicony, was riding motorcycle CN 1649 with Daniels as the pillion rider at an alleged fast rate of speed.
Charles reportedly lost control of the bike and crashed into a utility pole. As a result, Charles and Daniels fell onto the roadway and received injuries about their bodies.
Emergency Medical Technicians were summoned to the scene, and the duo was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre.
However, Charles, who is said to be a truck driver, was pronounced dead on arrival. The pillion rider was treated and referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.
The Police said neither Charles nor Daniels wore a helmet at the time of the accident. Their bodies are at the Memorial Gardens Mortuary awaiting post-mortem examination. Investigations are ongoing.
