Nearly 100 bills introduced in Parliament since 2020 aimed at positively impact national life – AG
From September 2020 to now, the Dr. Irfaan Ali-led Administration has presented nearly 100 bills in the National Assembly.
This was revealed by Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs Anil Nandlall, SC, just before he kick-started the debate on the Matrimonial Causes Amendment Bill 2024.
“From the life of this Parliament in September 2020 to now, we have brought nearly 100 bills to this house, touching and concerning almost every conceivable area of national life,” the Minister stated.
According to the AG, these legislative efforts aim to address a wide range of issues affecting every conceivable area of national life, with the overarching goal of improving the lives of all Guyanese and fostering a modern, regulated society.
“The Matrimonial Causes Amendment Bill and the Family Violence Bill are, perhaps, two bills that would touch the lives of every single Guyanese in a manner so intimate, more than any of the bills we would have brought so far,” Minister Nandlall posited.
More than 57 of the nearly 100 bills were passed in the National Assembly. These include the Single Window System Bill, the Hire Purchase Bill, the Condominium Bill, the Suicide Prevention Bill, and the Mental Health Promotion Bill.
