The Ministry of Human Services and Social Security says no child with a disability was refused the $100K cash grant.

The Ministry in a statement said it has taken note of an allegation made by a citizen on social media and was reposted by a popular online outlet. The post suggested that a child who was supposed to benefit from the special needs grant did not receive it even though the child’s parent had registered him.

“Isn't this unfair look at this child condition the mother took him to Port Mourant hospital and registered him for the disability grant the doctor filled his form and do all the necessary that is required for him to receive the grant. When the mother went yesterday at Albion complex they said the child is not qualified for the grant omg these people are something else come on man yall need to be fair,” Shaneza Baksh said on her social media page.

In fact, the Ministry said it has received the names of all the children registered with the National Commission on Disability for each region.

“In some cases, names were absent but not refused,” the Ministry said.

In those instances, the names were taken and placed on a new list and those persons would not have to re-register. For the names which were unintentionally omitted, those persons would receive their $100k grant within one month.

In June, President Irfaan Ali announced the special need cash grant. Over 5000 persons are expected to benefit from this initiative.
