Norton thinks highly of himself; ignores all facts Jagdeo says

Updated: Jun 18, 2022

Opposition Leader and Leader of the People's National Congress Reform (PNCR) Aubrey Norton is not “ready for the big league”. These were the words of Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo who was being interviewed by the Guyanese Critic.

His statements come after the two leaders were engaged in a discussion relating to several issues at the European Night held on Monday evening at the Georgetown Club.

According to Jagdeo, he approached Norton to engage him in important issues but he was disappointed since Norton did not want to deal with the facts of the matter.

The Vice President said “I do not think he is ready for the big league, he is complaining, cannot stick with one issue at a time, has a high opinion of himself and, in the process, ignores all facts,”

Jagdeo said he thought Norton would distance himself between the APNU/AFC’S contention that they won the elections but he had nothing new to offer. Norton informed Jagdeo that he has in his possession Statements of Poll (SOPs) that show the APNU/AFC Coalition won the elections.

Although the APNU/AFC has been claiming they won the 2020 March 2 General and Regional Elections to date they have not made their SOPS public.

Another indication of Norton’s ignorance of the facts, Jagdeo said, is Norton's intention to challenge the recount order which had led to the one-month long recount exercise in 2020.

“He wanted to debate the order promulgated by GECOM… I pointed out that the Representation of the People’s Act pointed out how a recount should take place… and, in any case, every one of the international community reports pointed to a PPP victory.”
