Over 4,000 house lots distributed so far for 2024 – Minister Croal

Minister of Housing and Water Collin Croal has announced that nearly 4,500 house lots have been allocated so far for this year, and his ministry is working aggressively to allocate an additional 5,500 by the end of the year.

“We want to ensure we meet our target of 50,000,” the Minister said during his appearance on ‘The Guyana Dialogue’ – a social media platform.

There are about 3,435 houses, whether turn-key or young professionals, with over 1,750 handed over to Guyanese. The Minister noted that the remaining are at various stages of completion.

“When you think about it, 1,750 is a lot in terms of both Regions Three, Four, and Six, and we just started some in Bartica in Region Seven. We also have Region Nine and we are doing land preparations to commence in Region 10.”

“It has brought a lot of relief to persons who want to own a home as quickly as possible but they don’t have the time to build their own design, their own dream house.”

However, the Minister acknowledged challenges in the construction sector, particularly in maintaining minimal costs.

“We have been having some challenges in construction because we are keeping our houses at minimal cost, and it is not for profit-making,” he explained.

To address these challenges, the government has been encouraging individuals to utilise private sector contractors to build their homes.

This approach aims to expedite the construction process and provide more options for prospective homeowners.
