The sod was turned on Thursday for the construction of a Demerara Bank at Lenora, on the West Coast Demerara (WCD).

This is the bank’s first branch in Region Three, and the move is expected to bring accessible banking to over 50,000 citizens.

This is according to the bank’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Pravinchandra Dave, who revealed that the bank's construction is expected to be complete in 18 months, and the total investment is pegged at approximately $150 million.

“I can assure you we shall provide the best possible service and assure you that you will have one of the best banks not only in Guyana but the Caribbean in Lenora,” Dave remarked.

Meanwhile, President Irfaan Ali, while delivering the feature address, congratulated the bank on this venture while highlighting that it falls in line with the Government’s plan to advance the country.

“I have no doubt that this investment will be successful; this investment that is happening around here will create a modern economic hub that will generate thousands of jobs,” he said.

Finance Minister Dr Ashni Singh also congratulated the bank on this step, saying that the area for construction was a smart choice.
