Peacemakers stabbed several times while intervening in domestic dispute

Two men who attempted to help a woman whom her boyfriend was beating were stabbed several times at High Bridge, La Penitence, Georgetown, on Saturday.


Those injured have been identified as Leroy Goriah, 46, of Lot 31 Ketley Street, Albouystown, Georgetown, and Alonzo Mc Lean, 48, of Lot 20 Independence Boulevard, Georgetown. The incident occurred at about 21:00h.


The Guyana Police Force (GPF) reported that on the day in question, the victims were at GT bar imbibing when they observed the suspect beating his girlfriend outside of the bar.


As a result, Goriah and Mc Lean went to the woman’s aid, but the suspect drew a knife from the waist of his pants and dealt the victims several stabs about their bodies before making good his escape on foot in an eastern direction.


The victims were picked up by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where they were admitted. Goriah’s condition is listed as critical, while Mc Lean is said to be stable. Goriah received five stabs to his back, one to his right side chest, and several to his right hand.


On the other hand, Mc Lean received one stab wound to his left side upper back in the vicinity of his shoulder. Police are on the hunt for the suspect as the investigation continues.
