Pedal cyclist fatally struck while attempting to cross Delhi Street
A pedal cyclist attempting to cross Delhi Street in Georgetown was fatally struck by a motor car on Friday night.
The accident, which claimed the life of 30-year-old Marlon Fraser, occurred at about 23:30h and involved motor car PAC 1898, driven by Shaquille Benjamin, 27.
According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), Benjamin was driving south along Delhi Street when Fraser suddenly attempted to cross the road.
Despite efforts to evade the cyclist, the vehicle’s left front collided with Fraser, causing him to fall onto the roadway.
Emergency services responded swiftly, but Fraser was pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor from Georgetown Public Hospital. His body was later transported to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
An investigation into the fatal accident has been launched.
