Pedal cyclist killed by alleged speeding security firm vehicle
A 79-year-old pedal cyclist was killed on Monday evening on the Meten-Meer-Zorg Public Road, West Coast Demerara (WCD).
Dead is Clayton Grant of Meer-Zorg Public Road, WCD. The fatal accident occurred at about 20:55h.
According to the Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), the accident involved motor pick-up PZZ 2877 owned by Sheriff Security Inc., which was driven by a 32-year-old man of Ruimzeight, WCD.
Reports are that the motor pick-up was proceeding west along the road allegedly at a fast rate of speed when the 79-year-old pedal cyclist attempted to cross from north to south and ended up in the vehicle’s path.
The front right portion of the vehicle hit the man, and he was flung a short distance away.
The elderly man received several injuries about his body and was picked up in an unconscious state by Police ranks and rushed to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The man’s body is at the Ezekiel Funeral Home, awaiting a Post Mortem Examination (PME). Investigations are ongoing.
