Pedestrian, 50, killed in collision on Vreed-en-Hoop Public Road
Barrat Persaud, 50, who has no fixed place of abode, was struck down and killed on the New Road Public Road, Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara (WCD) on Saturday.
Reports are that at about 01:30h, motor car HD 3236, driven by Jermaine Wallerson, was proceeding west along the southern side of New Road Public Road when he claimed that Persaud, who was standing on the south edge, suddenly walked across and into the path of his vehicle.
The driver told police that the left side front portion of the car collided with the pedestrian and, as a result, Persaud fell onto the roadway, where he received injuries to his head and about his body.
The 50-year-old man was picked up in an unconscious condition by public-spirited citizens, placed into the car, and rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver, and no trace of alcohol was found on his breath, Police stated.
Persaud’s body is at the Ezekiel Funeral Home, awaiting a Post-Mortem Examination. The driver is in custody, assisting with the investigation.
