Pedestrian hospitalised after being struck down by car on Good Hope Public Road
A 40-year-old man is now hospitalised following an accident on the Good Hope Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD), on Tuesday.
The injured man has been identified as Ricardo Narine of Lot 3 Pay Office Street, Enterprise, ECD.
According to the Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), Narine was struck down at about 19:45h by motorcar PNN 2435, driven by 63-year-old Ian Clarke of Lot 473 Section ‘B’ Non-Pariel, ECD.
The CCU reported that the motorcar was proceeding east along the northern drive lane of the northern carriageway of Good Hope Public Road when the driver alleged that the pedestrian, who was clad in dark clothing, walked across the road from north to south and into the vehicle’s path.
“Upon seeing such, he applied his brakes, but despite his effort, the front of his motor vehicle collided with the pedestrian, causing him to fall onto the roadway where he received injuries to his head and about his body,” the police said.
The pedestrian was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty who listed his condition as stable.
A breathalyser test was conducted on the driver, and while it showed he had alcohol in his system, it was not above the limit. Notwithstanding, an investigation is underway.
