Pedestrian killed in Madewini accident identified as Roxanne Burnham Gardens man
The pedestrian who was involved in the fatal accident at Madewini along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway on Friday was identified as 30-year-old Lorenzo Sampson.
Sampson, who was struck down at about 05:30h by a 28-year-old motor lorry driver of Mackenzie, Linden, was identified by his mother, Lorraine Brower.
This publication reported that the motor lorry was proceeding north along the western side of the road when Sampson, who was sitting on a tyre, suddenly ran from the west going east and into the path of the motor lorry.
The driver claimed that he applied brakes, but he collided with the pedestrian due to the short distance. As a result, Sampson fell onto the road's surface and received injuries about his head and body.
He was picked up in an unconscious condition by the police and was taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Center, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The body was then escorted to Carmen's Funeral Home for storage while awaiting a Post Mortem Examination (PME).
The driver was administered a breathalyser test, but no trace of alcohol was found in his system. He is presently in police custody, assisting with the ongoing investigation.
