Pensioner dies following bee attack in Mahaicony
Imran Alli, a 70-year-old pensioner called ‘Buddy,’ tragically lost his life on Tuesday after being attacked by a swarm of bees while clearing bushes on a plot of land opposite his home at Lot 24 Novar, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
According to a statement from the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the incident occurred around 11:00h when Alli and his worker, 43-year-old Dale Husher, were engaged in land clearing activities.
The two men inadvertently disturbed a bee nest, prompting a violent swarm to attack.
The victim’s wife, Zeana Alli reported hearing Husher shouting for help and rushed to her verandah, only to witness her husband lying on the ground, engulfed by bees.
Despite efforts from residents to rescue him, their attempts were in vain. Husher related that as they worked, a swarm of bees suddenly descended upon them.
In a state of panic, he fled for safety, leaving Alli behind as he struggled against the overwhelming attack.
Emergency services were summoned, and Alli was transported to the Mahaicony Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty.
His body has since been placed at the Central Islamic Organization of Guyana (CIOG) mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
