Police destroy over $151M worth of cannabis plants at Ebini Backdam
A drug eradication exercise by Police in Region 10 has led to the discovery and destruction of over $151 million worth of marijuana plants at Ebini Backdam, Berbice River, on Wednesday.
In a statement, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) said that ranks went to the location, and two cannabis farms spanning seven acres were found.
According to the GPF, the first farm was approximately five acres in size. It had 50 beds with 460 plants ranging in height from one foot to two feet.
“There was a total of 23,000 plants, with an average weight of 25,300 kilograms and a street value of $3,896,200. A makeshift camp with kitchen utensils, groceries, and 90.71 kilograms of dried cannabis, with a street value of $81,639,000, was also found,” the police said.
The second farm was two acres in size, with 3,728 plants ranging from one foot to three feet in height and an average weight of 4,100 kilograms. Its street value was $631,523.
There was also a make-shift camp, which had 72.57 kilograms of dried cannabis with a street value of $65,313,000. The farms were set on fire and destroyed. No arrests were made.
