Police destroy over $3.8M worth of ganja in Region 10
An eradication exercise between Wiruni and St. Lust in the Berbice River in Region 10 has netted a cannabis farm, which was subsequently destroyed.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said in a statement that the farm was approximately three acres in size, with plants ranging from four to six feet in height.
“There were two hundred and fifty beds, each with fifty plants,” the GPF said. According to the Police Force, 12,500 plants with an average weight of 27,500 kilograms were found and destroyed. The street value was pegged at $3,875,531.
“There was also a nursery with about twenty-five thousand two hundred (25,200) plants and about one hundred and forty (140) pounds of dried Cannabis,” the statement added.
Two make-shift camps equipped with four hammocks, kitchen utensils, and a quantity of groceries were set on fire and destroyed, along with the cannabis plants.
