Police discover firearm and ammo in abandoned vehicle at known ‘drugs block’

In the wee hours of Wednesday, police ranks on patrol duty in Georgetown made a discovery of an illegal firearm and ammunition at a known ‘drugs block’ near Norton Street and Mandela Avenue.

While on patrol, officers noticed a group of men behaving suspiciously. Upon stopping the patrol vehicle, the men dispersed in various directions.

During the patrol, police observed a grey wagon motorcar, with registration number PAG 3160, parked on the southern side of the road.

The vehicle was locked, and when officers questioned bystanders about its ownership, no one claimed responsibility for the car.

Officers conducted a search around the vehicle and found a car key lying on the ground next to it. Upon testing the key, it unlocked the motorcar.

A search of the vehicle revealed a .40 pistol with one magazine and 11 rounds of .40 ammunition concealed in the glove compartment.

Further investigation of the car yielded documents identifying Melissa Cox of Norton Street, Lodge, Georgetown, as the registered owner. A driver’s license belonging to Patrick Kireem Sanmoogan was also found inside.
