Police Force, CANU destroy over $2B worth of narcotics
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) on Saturday destroyed 2,253.60 kilograms of marijuana, which had a street value of approximately $2,028,240,000.
The narcotics destruction exercise occurred at the former Ministry of Housing tarmac, Homestretch Avenue, Georgetown.
The drug seizures have been ongoing since January 2023. The Police Force said in a statement that most of the seizures mainly occurred in Regional Divisions Five and Six, with minor confiscations in Regions Four and Ten.
Several persons were charged and placed before the court, while several plantations were found abandoned. On the other hand, the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) also destroyed 512 kilograms, equivalent to $153 million.
