Police hunting Brazilian national over murder of miner at Honey Camp Landing
Police are searching for a Brazilian national known only as ‘Nigi’ in connection with the fatal stabbing of 37-year-old miner Ovid James.
The murder occurred around 7:00h on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at 9 Miles Backdam, Honey Camp, Middle Mazaruni River.
According to reports, James and the suspect worked for gold miner Alister Culpepper at the Backdam.
On Monday afternoon, Culpepper and his employees wrapped up work and headed to Honey Camp Landing, where they spent the evening imbibing.
The deceased’s reputed wife, 45-year-old Rebecca Anton, stated that James was heavily intoxicated the following morning.
She managed to bring him back to camp, where they encountered the suspect sitting at a table drinking high wine. James joined the suspect, and an argument erupted over who their actual employer was.
The confrontation escalated when the Brazilian man armed himself with a knife and stabbed James in the lower abdomen, causing severe injuries that led to his intestines protruding. James collapsed and died on the spot.
Police were summoned and transported the body to the Issano Health Post, where it was pronounced dead.
