Police investigating the death of a woman in Region 7; Suspect in custody.

Investigations are currently ongoing into the alleged murder of a 36-year-old, Indigenous woman from Lethem in Region #9, who has now been identified as Vanessa Rodrigues also called 'Chinee girl'.

According to Commander for Regional Division #7 Superintendent Dion Moore, the incident occurred between April 12th and April 13th, 2022 at Papi Landing, Middle Mazaruni River.

The scene was visited on April 13th at about 10:50 hrs by a party of Police ranks.

Investigations thus far have revealed that the victim was last seen sometime on the evening of the 12th in the company of a male, who is now a suspect.

At around 10:00 hrs today, her body was found lying face down on a track with a chop wound to her head and several other marks of violence about her body.

The body was clad in a blue blouse and red and black pants.

The suspect is presently in custody assisting with the investigation.

The woman's body and the suspect were both escorted to Bartica, as further investigations continue.
