Police recover firearm and ammunition in Berbice River operation
A cordon, search, and eradication exercise on Tuesday conducted by ranks of Region Six resulted in the discovery of an illegal firearm and ammunition along the Berbice River.
The operation, which took place between 03:30h and 13:00h, targeted a one-storey wooden house at Fort Nassau.
According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), two men who were inside the house fled the scene as soon as they spotted the approaching police ranks, leaving the premises open and unattended.
The police quickly entered the house to conduct a search. During the search, the ranks uncovered a shotgun, five live cartridges, and one spent cartridge. The firearm and ammunition were seized by the police, who noted that no licence was attached to the items found.
The police are continuing their investigations and are making efforts to apprehend the two men who escaped from the premises.
