Police roadblock nets firearm, ganja and ecstasy
A 47-year-old vendor was on Tuesday arrested following the discovery of a gun with matching rounds along with marijuana and ecstasy in the car he was driving.
According to the Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), at about 17:30h, ranks were on a roadblock exercise on the Washer Pond Public Road in Mackenzie Linden when the vendor, who was driving motorcar PAC 1121, was stopped.
At the roadblock, the vendor who hails from Main Street, Central Amelia’s Ward Mackenzie, was the lone occupant in the vehicle and was seen acting suspiciously.
A search was asked to be conducted on the vehicle, and according to the CCU, the man was hesitant.
Notwithstanding, he subsequently exited the vehicle, and a .32 Taurus pistol with 11 live matching rounds in the magazine was found on the driver’s seat.
The man was asked if he was a firearm licence holder, to which the CCU said he remained silent. He was then arrested, cautioned, and escorted to Mackenzie Police Station along with his motorcar, firearm, and ammunition.
A thorough search was carried out on the car at the Station, and two small transparent plastic bags containing a small quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis and 40 suspected ecstasy pills were found.
The offence of possession of narcotics was put to the man, and he also remained silent. The narcotic was weighed in his presence and amounted to two grams. He is in custody pending charges.
