Police Sergeant among three under close arrest over bribe accusations

Regional Commander for Region Six Shivpersaud Bacchus has confirmed that three ranks from the Rose Hall Outpost on the Corentyne are under close arrest after allegedly accepting $400,000 in bribes to release a man with an unlicensed firearm.


Reports are that on Saturday last, a woman, who was a patron at a popular bar at Albion on the Corentyne, informed the security guard that there was a male armed with a firearm, threatening her.


MTV News Update understands that the security guard arrested the man, took away the firearm, and informed the Police. He was handed over to the Police along with the firearm.


However, on their way to the Albion Police Station, the Officers diverted to the Rose Hall Police Outpost on the Corentyne. The suspect allegedly offered them $400,000 cash to be released along with the firearm.


It is alleged that the cops took the money, and the man was released along with the firearm. The alleged bribe was exposed, and the three ranks were placed on close arrest in Georgetown as the investigations continue.
