Police unearth 24 kilos of ganja in unoccupied house at Vigilance

An intelligence-led operation conducted by a party of policemen from Regional Division 4 'C' on Wednesday unearthed 24 kilograms of suspected cannabis in a house at Vigilance South, East Coast Demerara (ECD).


A statement by the Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) stated that the officers went to the location, where a search was carried out on an incomplete flat concrete building.


During the search, five bulky transparent plastic bags containing suspected cannabis inside a barrel was discovered.


Law enforcement officers also found a suitcase containing 13 wrapped brown plastic bags with suspected cannabis and a bucket with 13 wrapped brown plastic bags suspected to be cannabis in a bedroom.


A further search resulted in police discovering several government-issued documents bearing the name of a male resident of Vigilance South, East Coast Demerara. The CCU noted that the building was unoccupied at the time of the search.


The suspected narcotics were taken to the Cove and John Police Station, where it was weighed and amounted to 24 kilograms. The parcels were also dusted for fingerprints.


The CCU noted that no arrest has yet been made in relation to the discovery. However, investigations are ongoing.
