Pritipaul assured Labour Ministry employees would be paid their severances – CLO

Chief Labour Officer Dhaneshwar Deonarine

Several employees from Pritipaul Singh Investment Incorporated recently staged a protest action over non-payment of severances. The Ministry of Labour held a meeting with the Human Resources Manager Sahodra Roopnarin of the company to find out the reason behind the dispute.

Chief Labour Officer (CLO) Dhaneshwar Deonarine when contacted by MTV News Update on Wednesday, said the main reason behind the protest action was the non-payment of severances.

However, the CLO noted that the company assured the ministry that all employees who are desirous of severance payment would be paid.

“They assured us that they are paying the severance to the employees and I think when we met there that was the day after they would have paid 10 employees their severance and they promised to continue to pay employees their severance […] those of course who opted for that option.”

The Ministry in a press statement had called for aggrieved workers of the company to make an official complaint.

“We haven’t received any complaint from any worker regarding any issue with Pritipaul since that release; however I think two persons came to the ministry to check to see whether the amount they received, whether that was correct. One of the officers dealt with that and it was indeed correct,” the CLO noted.

Calls to the Human Resources Manager Sahodra Roopnarin to get an update on how many employees were paid severances so far proved futile up to press time.
