Four men who were arrested by ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) with 1.750 kilograms of ‘Kush’ was on Friday slapped with drug trafficking charges.

Erwin Chappelle, 24, Doodnauth Bhagwandin, 35, Kevin Ramgoolam, 27, and Mark Barton, 29, were hauled before Magistrate Rushelle Liverpool at the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Court.

The quartet pleaded not guilty to the charges, which stated that on September 1, 2022, at Middle Street, South Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara (ECD), they had 1.750 kilograms of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking. They were remanded to prison until September 20, 2022.

CANU reported that it intercepted a motorcar with four occupants at Middle Street, South Vryheid’s Lust. A search was carried out on the vehicle, and four parcels of suspected cannabis were unearthed.

The four men were taken to CANU’s headquarters, where the drugs tested positive for cannabis and had a street value of approximately $2.8 million or US$13,500.

This type of cannabis, according to CANU, is known as ‘Kush,’ which is suspected of having been imported into Guyana from North America.
