Robbery accused killed execution-style in East Ruimveldt
Troy Rodrigues, called ‘Kelly,’ a 23-year-old mechanic, was killed execution-style at Vlissengen Square, East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, on Friday.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF), in a statement, said that Rodrigues of Lot 165 Leopold Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, was murdered around 19:15h.
A 25-year-old construction worker from the area reported hearing two loud gunshots while he was in his backyard. Upon checking, he saw Rodrigues lying motionless on the road in a pool of blood.
The 23-year-old mechanic was discovered wearing a green jersey, blue shorts, black slippers, and a black surgical mask. A small circular wound was visible on his forehead, indicating that he was shot at close range.
However, no spent shell casings were found at the scene. Rodrigues’ body was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital's mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
Rodrigues, who is no stranger to law enforcement officials, was reportedly on bail after being charged with robbery.
Police have questioned several people in the area, and investigations into the execution-style killing are ongoing.
