Rosignol man in custody for staging multi-million-dollar robbery
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) has detained Paramdeo Victor, a 37-year-old resident of Rosignol, who allegedly staged a multi-million-dollar robbery to steal funds he was entrusted to transport.
Victor reportedly admitted to orchestrating the incident after initially filing a false report claiming he had been robbed.
According to police reports, Victor arrived at the Mahaica Police Station at 12:30h on Wednesday, claiming he had been ambushed by three armed men in ski masks and dark clothing at Unity, Mahaica Old Road around 11:00h.
He stated that the gunmen forced him off the road, taking $10,250,000 he was transporting for a jeweller in Rosignol after collecting it from a Cambio on King Street, Georgetown.
However, after interviewing Victor, police officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) became suspicious of inconsistencies in his story, prompting further questioning.
During the interrogation, Victor admitted to staging the robbery and concealing the stolen money.
He led officers to his vehicle, where he had hidden $2 million. Victor also disclosed that his accomplice, identified as Cornell Taylor, known as "Rastaman," held an additional portion of the money in Ithaca Village, West Bank Berbice.
Later that evening, around 19:00h, police accompanied Victor to Ithaca and then to his residence in Rosignol, where they discovered an additional $6 million hidden in a washing machine.
The police are now searching for Taylor and the remaining cash, while the investigation continues.
