Sales Assistant arrested for allegedly killing ‘Roach’
A 33-year-old Sales Assistant was arrested on Sunday after he allegedly lashed a vagrant to his chest and killed him because he failed to locate his brother, who is a drug addict.
Dead is Munilad Persaud, called ‘Roach,’ a vagrant. During questioning, the suspect informed investigators that his 35-year-old brother, a drug addict with no fixed place of abode, frequently dwells around the Stabroek Market area in Georgetown.
According to the suspect, he often visited the Stabroek Market to search for his brother and had occasionally seen the now-deceased Persaud in his brother’s company.
On Saturday, the suspect said he arrived at the Stabroek Market area around 17:00h in search of his brother but could not locate him. While on Water Street (behind the Fire Station), the suspect encountered Persaud and paid him $2,500 to help search for his brother.
About 30 minutes later, Persaud returned, stating he could not find the suspect’s brother. This led to a heated argument between the two men.
During the altercation, the suspect picked up a piece of wood from the ground nearby and allegedly struck Persaud once in the chest.
Persaud staggered a few steps before collapsing to the ground, motionless. Following the incident, the suspect caught a speedboat from the Georgetown Ferry Stelling and travelled to Vreed-en-Hoop, where the police arrested him.
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) were summoned to the scene, and the vagrant was pronounced dead.
