Samuel Chandool Jr: Navigating fatherhood with purpose and passion

Samuel and his family

Amid the ebb and flow of everyday life, Samuel Chandool Jr. stands out not just as a businessman but as a father navigating the complexities of modern parenthood.

In fact, the past two years have infused his life with deeper meaning and purpose, making him more cautious about his actions.

He relayed to MTV News Update that he wants to do everything possible to create a better world for his daughter, Genevieve.

“You start to analyse every aspect of your life to ensure you’re doing the right thing,” Chandool says.

According to Samuel, fatherhood has been full of surprises. One memorable moment is: “I remember one time my daughter was playing, and a child took her toy away. She immediately yelled for Daddy. That was memorable because I realised how much this little human counts on me for protection.”

He noted that this unexpected moment has deepened his understanding of the bond between parent and child.

BALANCING WORK AND FAMILY LIFE

As an entrepreneur, balancing the demands of work with personal life has been a challenge.

Samuel admits, “It has been a struggle. I’ve had to restructure my entire business to ensure it runs smoothly without my full-time supervision.”

This restructuring has allowed him to be more present for his daughter, highlighting the importance of prioritising family.

Moreover, Samuel has faced several challenges as a new father, particularly in managing his mental health amidst work-life stressors.

“I’ve had to master the ability to put it all aside to be there for my daughter,” he explains. Additionally, he challenges cultural norms by allowing his daughter to express herself freely.

A memorable incident at a party underscored this resolve: “A guy came to me and said, ‘Oh, she’s going to give you a lot of trouble when she grows up.’ That motivated me even more to allow my daughter to express herself and not care so much about what people think.”

ADVICE FOR NEW FATHERS

This businessman advises new fathers to be as involved as possible in their child’s life.

“Take every opportunity to be there and enjoy the moment. Time passes quickly, and before you know it, you don’t have a baby anymore," he says.

For Samuel, Father’s Day is a time for relaxation and bonding. This year, he plans to spend the day with his family in Essequibo.

While he appreciates the recognition, he views fatherhood as a responsibility rather than a role that requires a special day.

“Being a father is a great privilege,” he says. The most rewarding aspect of fatherhood for this entrepreneur has been the bonding experience.

“I really enjoy discovering new things with my daughter. It’s always rewarding to see a little human discovering new things,” he shares, highlighting the joy and warmth that come with these moments.

LOOKING BACK AND MOVING FORWARD

If he could go back, Samuel said he would tell himself that everything would be “okay” and that the anxiety and worry were unnecessary.

“All the anxiety and worry I had over the birth of my child were irrelevant and uncalled for,” he reflects, offering reassurance to new fathers embarking on this journey.
