Security guard, 19, jailed for break and enter and larceny & escaping from custody

Jamal Halley

Jamal Halley, a 19-year-old security guard from Sophia, Greater Georgetown, has been sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to charges of breaking and entering and larceny and escaping from lawful custody.

Halley was arrested on August 13, 2024, and formally charged on Thursday at the Golden Grove Magistrate’s Court.

The first charge stemmed from an incident on August 13, 2024, in which Halley broke into the home of Onessa Gibson, located on First Street, Kaneville, East Bank Demerara (EBD), and committed larceny. He also escaped from custody.

Appearing before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman, Halley admitted to both charges. After hearing his guilty plea, Magistrate Latchman imposed the sentence.
