Security Guard remanded for discharging firearm
A Security Guard was on Tuesday remanded to prison for discharging a firearm against a man at the Eclipse Bar, located on the West Coast Demerara (WCD).
25-year-old Kadeem Andrews of Lot 33 Crane Housing Scheme, WCD, was hauled before Magistrate Zamilla Ali-Seepaul at the Leonora Magistrate's Court and was not required to plead to the indictable charge.
The charge states that on May 15, 2022, at Eclipse Bar, he discharged a loaded firearm at Ricardo Poloram with intent to maim, disfigure, disable or cause grievous bodily harm. He was remanded to prison until June 16, 2022.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said that Poloram was at the Eclipse Bar drinking with friends when he went outside to urinate. As he was re-entering the bar, he was confronted by Andrews.
An argument ensued, which resulted in an altercation during which the security guard allegedly went into a side bag, pulled out a handgun, and discharged a round toward Poloram. As a result, Poloram received injuries to his neck.
He fell to the ground and was picked up and taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where he was seen by a doctor on duty, treated, and sent away. The accused was arrested and taken in custody with a 9mm Taurus pistol along with nine matching rounds.
