Seven days later: Still no trace of missing teenager

Missing: 16-year-old Akeem Bissoon

It has been seven days since 16-year-old Akeem Bissoon mysteriously disappeared from his uncle’s camp in Aruwai Airstrip, and his mother, Jennifer Henry, is becoming more worried.

The teen was last seen on June 14 by his uncle, Andrew Harlequin, sitting outside his camp. Following his disappearance, only his slippers and phone were found where he was last seen sitting.

A tearful Jennifer said, “I am hoping and praying that he’s somewhere and he’s alive.”

Jennifer explained that Andrew first told her that he went missing on Wednesday, but after her sister and nephew told her otherwise, he admitted that Akeem went missing on Tuesday at around 17:00h.

Meanwhile, the Officer-in-Charge of the Bartica Police Station told MTV News Update on Monday that ranks have not been able to locate the teen, but they are going into the Amerindian villages to expand their search.

He said they are hoping to find him alive, but there is also a possibility of him somehow ending up in nearby falls.

“The water there, there’s a falls and the stream there very hard, the water is very hard, and if by chance he went to the side there or anything else, then it’s difficult for him to locate,” he said.
