Sex worker was shot once, 9 spent shells recovered at the scene – Police
Shawn Simon, the Grove, East Bank Demerara (EBD) sexual worker who was killed in the wee hours of Thursday, was shot once to the arm, according to the Guyana Police Force (GPF).
Simon, who is said to be 28 years old, was killed at about 02:00h on Thursday at King Street and South Road, Georgetown.
Police said that Simon was standing with another 26-year-old sex worker when a heavily tinted silver Premio motor car with an unknown registration number drove south on Croal Street.
Witnesses reported hearing several loud explosions, believed to be gunshots, emanating from the direction of the car. In response to the gunfire, Simon and the other sex worker fled east onto South Road. Tragically, the sex worker collapsed shortly after.
The car, meanwhile, continued north on King Street and disappeared from the scene. Upon being alerted, detectives rushed to the location and discovered Simon lying face-down in a pool of blood. He was wearing a black dress, a black shower cap, and black socks.
A doctor from the Georgetown Public Hospital pronounced the sex worker dead at the scene.
Crime scene investigators examined Simon’s body and found a gunshot wound under his right arm. Additionally, they recovered nine 9mm spent shells from the scene.
