‘Shaggy’ arraigned for murder of transgender sex worker
Already facing an armed robbery charge, Shaggy Mohamed, who was implicated in the shooting death of transgender sex worker Shawn Anthony Simon, has been slapped with a murder indictment and remanded to prison.
Mohamed was hauled before acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court virtually and jointly charged with Akeem Fraser.
The duo was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was remanded to prison until August 12, 2024, for reports and statements. Last week, Mohamed was charged with armed robbery.
Hooper, also known as ‘Coil Bottle,’ was shot in the wee hours of July 11, 2024, while on King Street and South Road in Georgetown.
The police reported that Hooper was standing with another 26-year-old sex worker identified as ‘Unruly Lilwattie’ when a heavily tinted silver Premio motor car with an unknown registration number drove south on Croal Street.
Several loud explosions, believed to be gunshots, coming from the car’s direction were heard. In response, Hooper and the other sex worker fled east onto South Road. Tragically, Hooper collapsed shortly after.
The car continued north on King Street and disappeared from the scene. Upon being alerted, detectives rushed to the location and found Hooper lying face-down in a pool of blood.
He was wearing a black dress, a black shower cap, and black socks. A doctor from the Georgetown Public Hospital arrived and pronounced Hooper dead at the scene.
Crime scene investigators examined Hooper’s body and found a gunshot wound under his right arm. They also recovered nine 9mm spent shells from the scene.
