SOME DRAINS, CANALS CLOGGED WITH GARBAGE - Citizens urged to properly dispose their garbage
Agriculture Minister, Zulfikar Mustapha is urging citizens to desist from jumping garbage and other unwanted items in canals and drains as rainfalls increases.

The Hydro Office of the Ministry of Agriculture earlier this month predicted that there will be increased rainfall for the next three months starting from Mid-November 2022 until January 2023.
Minister of Agriculture Zulfikar Mustapha earlier this week visited several of the city’s drainage pumps. His visit followed heavy rainfall approximately 4 inches in the capital city yesterday.
During his inspection some of the drains and canals were clogged with garbage. This has caused the pump at Princess Street to become inoperable.
"Things like old tire, washing machine, old bicycle and a lot of derelict came out of the Kitty South pump"
Minister Mustapha is urging citizens to desist from dumping unwanted items in the waterways.
"I'm appealing to residents to help the situation to avoid throwing these waste in these drainage system so we have can have free flow of water."
The National Drainage and Irrigation Authority has assigned three engineers to monitor on a 24-hour basis to ensure all the pumps and sluices remain operable to minimise flooding in the city.
