A 24-year-old of Block ‘F’ North Sophia, Greater Georgetown, was nabbed with an improvised firearm and three 9mm rounds of ammunition in the wee hours of Friday at a ‘street party.’

According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), a team of officers arrived at the party at Pike Street, Sophia, at about 00:30 h.

Upon arrival, the ranks made contact with Anthony Bumbury, a labourer, who was standing on the road.

The officers identified themselves and conducted a search of Bumbury’s person. During the search, they discovered the firearm and ammunition.

When questioned by the officers, Bumbury reportedly admitted he did not possess a firearm licence. He was informed of the offence, cautioned, and arrested. He was then escorted to the Alberttown Police Station.

The firearm and ammunition will be sent to the ballistics section for further analysis, Police said as the investigation continues.
