Speeding driver dies after losing control of car on No. 36 Public Road
A 38-year-old driver died on Sunday morning after he allegedly lost control of the car he was driving and slammed into a utility pole on the Number 36 Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice.
Dead is Troy Trevor Elias of Lot 4 Cromarty Farm, Corentyne, Berbice. Police said the accident occurred at about 05:45 h, and a passenger identified as Mark Anderson was in the vehicle at the time.
Reports are that Ellias was behind the wheel of motor car PGG 3721, which was proceeding at an alleged fast rate of speed on the eastern drive lane of Number 36 Public Road.
Ellias reportedly lost control of the vehicle, collided with a utility pole on the eastern side of the road, and toppled several times before coming to a halt.
Public-spirited citizens took the driver and Anderson out of the vehicle and rushed them to the Skeldon Public Hospital.
Upon arrival, Ellias was pronounced dead, while the passenger was admitted as a patient with his condition listed as stable.
The body of the driver is at the hospital’s mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination. Investigations are continuing.
